We introduced snowshoeing to our kids with short and easy trips, literally around our backyard together when the snow fell. Keep in mind that distances that may be easy during the summer months, will be a bit more difficult in the snow during the winter months. Our motto when snowshoeing with kids is more about the experience, not distance!
Many local golf courses may allow snowshoeing or cross country skiing during the winter season, and even your local park or school fields make for a simple, fun family experience snowshoeing together.
When you are ready to adventure a little farther, there are a few things to check remember before you head out. Our go-to is the Snow Conditions interactive map on Travel Wisconsin (link here) because if you aren’t local and traveling to that area, you have a better idea of what the conditions are like. You can even check out other winter sports: snowmobiling, downhill skiing and snowboarding conditions too. Just make sure to have your car packed with essential winter gear, check out our Road Trip Winter Packing List here.
